Making A difference ~ Intergenerational programming with impact
PCC collaborating with the Friends Youth Mentoring Program serve as a valued site for approved Mentors and Mentees to meet. The two agencies have been improving the quality of life for this region’s children and families for decades. Both agencies’s standardly serve Andover, Boscawen, Concord, Loudon, Penacook, Salisbury, and Webster residents. This exciting undertaking will support the volunteer investment of 12 of the Center’s own Senior Program Members as they volunteer to Mentor 12 of the Center’s Youth Program Members. Mentors and Mentees will be part of a Site-based Plus Project; encouraging being part of 1:1 match meetings and group activities at the Center, as well as having access to many Friends Program run and sponsored activities and learning opportunities off site.
In the first year of this collaborative project we will welcome 12 new Mentor/Mentee matches. All of the Youth Mentoring services are free of charge for children and families. Mentors are screened, trained, and supervised by the Friends Program staff and the vast majority of Mentor/Mentee visits and activities will take place at the Penacook Community Center.
The Youth Mentoring Program is an impactful program that infuses strength into the lives of children, many of whom would thrive on some additional 1:1 time in their lives. Both generations learn so much from each other and truly do benefit from the time spent together.
